How Does BOTOX® Work?

Regular contraction of facial muscles during facial movements and expressions can cause them to become stiff. It becomes harder for the muscles to return to their relaxed state, leading to the development of horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

The botulinum toxin in the BOTOX injection is a neuromodulator. It can block chemical signals in the nerves responsible for muscle contraction, allowing the facial muscles to relax. The relaxation of the muscles smooths out the skin above them, effectively reducing wrinkles and facial creases.

Your BOTOX® Treatment Consultation

We will review your medical history during your consultation and thoroughly examine your facial wrinkles. If it’s your first time receiving a BOTOX treatment, we will check for allergies, especially if you have sensitive skin.

We will listen to your goals and develop a treatment plan accordingly. We will also discuss the details of the treatment plan, including the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results.

Your BOTOX® Session

A BOTOX treatment session can be as brief as 15 minutes, allowing it to be completed during a patient’s lunch break. Topical anesthesia may be used for patient comfort.

A tiny needle is used to inject a small amount of BOTOX into the target area. The number of injections varies depending on the treatment plan. The faces are cleaned after the treatment.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

You can go home right after your treatment session. Recovery time will not be needed.

Rubbing or massaging the treated area will not be allowed for the first day after treatment, and patients should refrain from facials for 2 weeks. You will be provided with aftercare instructions, which should be followed closely.

The Results You Can Expect from BOTOX®

The results of the BOTOX injection will generally be visible within 7 to 14 days after treatment. The effects will last 3 to 4 months. After this time, lines and wrinkles will start to reappear. 

To maintain optimal results, it is recommended that the patient return for regular maintenance treatments.
